Alumni Focus

We are pleased to spotlight two UMMC residency alumni, Drs. Neelam Patel and Maureen Offiah.

Residency and Fellowship Program Update

The UMMC Dermatology Residency Program currently boasts 12 residents in training in the PGY-2 through -4 years with five PGY-1s joining us next year. In addition, we currently have a Mohs fellow as well as a dermatopathology fellow in training. Our seventh class of residency graduates finished in June 2022, and we were grateful to have our first formal in-person graduation post Covid-19.

Annual AAD Spring Skin Cancer Screening Program in Conjunction with Women’s Dermatologic Society

After a multiple year hiatus due to COVID-19 we were able to reinstate our annual skin cancer screening event. This event will be held annually in May, skin cancer awareness month, in partnership with the American Academy of Dermatology and the Women’s Dermatologic Society. Free skin screening is provided to UMMC employees and their family members. We are grateful to all Dermatology providers and staff who volunteered their time, many of whom are pictured here.

Faculty and Resident Awards, Honors, and Distinguished Presentations

Amanda Brown, NP, and Laura Beth Puhr, LPN, were both recently nominated for UMMC’s 2022 All-Star Nursing Award. In addition, several other faculty members and residents received various awards and honors. Please join us in congratulating our faculty, staff, and residents for their hard work and outstanding accomplishments!

Research Corner

Drs. Thy Huynh and Vinayak Nahar continue their work to grow our research enterprise and support our three-part mission of health care, research, and education. Dr. Huynh is in active discussions to conduct future trials on skin conditions such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, scleroderma, and hidradenitis. Several trials are in various stages of study startup. In addition, registry collection will also be underway to assess impact of various skin conditions and their effect on quality of life.

Welcome New PGY2 Residents

We would like to welcome our new first year residents who are happy to finally begin their careers in dermatology; Drs. Hollis Burrow, Julissa Jimenez, and Laura Beth Edwards. We have been excited to work with these excellent candidates with superb credentials thus far and believe they will contribute much to the residency program and the future of dermatology practice.
